Say I get an iced tea on a Wednesday at breakfast time while I’m driving around. I drink a third of it and leave it in the car for a few hours.

Then I get back in my car Wednesday at dinner time and drink a little more - even if it is now 70°.

Is it bad to try it again on Thursday if it’s brewed, unsweetened tea? Or am I drinking mold and bad juju?

I will meet your representative for fancy coffee so we can discuss my “current project” and what I’d like to be doing next.

It never ever hurts.

One more room done. Ten more empty boxes ready for the curb.

I’m ready to sleeeep and have the pleasure of no obligations tomorrow morning.

My son asked me tonight if he can have a phone for his 10th birthday. What in the blue hell? No way.

Peace and ceiling fans.

Goodnight, you moments of Zen.

100%.

But. This exercise will turn anyone into that person in a heartbeat. When you pull $7 out of an envelope after selling a lamp you didn’t need or love, two things happen:

• You start to deal in cash. I carry cash and spend it and it is true what is said about it. Counting out $7 for a bagel and iced tea feels a hell of a lot different that flashing a barcode on your phone. You immediately relate that breakfast to a lamp. That’s a game changer.

• You sure as hell won’t be cavalier about spending $50 on a new lamp once you realize you had an unnecessary one around for so long. You probably paid about that much for it and you sold it. For $7. That’s a real slap in the face.

Finally, my kids see this.

It had become unusual for my boys to see cash being exchanged. Not anymore. They see me deal almost exclusively in cash now. I have talked more about money and waste since this started. They have brought me things to sell and to donate to Pay it Forward. They have asked for less.

So, sure. It’s always better to be wise early. But it’s important to get wise sooner rather than later - or not at all.

$3,006

I didn’t keep track of my listing / selling for the first few weeks. When I realized that I’d be really cutting to the bone and purging, I started a spreadsheet to track it. I was now working in real volume.

I listed 134 items that sold after I started the spreadsheet. Those have totaled $3,006 to date.

I have seven items sold but not yet picked up: another $96.

And I have another 48 items on the marketplace for sale.

I have a mental list of the next dozen or so things that I’ll list - art, mostly.

But, my message here is to you. Turn your unused stuff into money or meaningful charity.

I’m working on a seminar.

Not really.
